Lutz Substation

Zeal Engineering Consultants (Pty) Ltd was appointed for the construction of a distribution step-down sub-station. With the constant increase in power consumption, it is essential to develop South Africa’s power grid to enable it to withstand the burden of an increase in users.

The Project will satisfy the following key objectives:

  • Provide a sustainable solution for stepping down transmission voltage to distribution voltage

  • Safe and reliable transfer of power to eliminate injuries and fatalities

  • Assemble necessary protection equipment to prevent electrical shorts, fires or any other damages to equipment.

  • Civil works to construct sub-station building, fences, plinths etc

  • Provide fault locations to minimize down time and decreasing fault finding to avoid unnecessary power outages

  • Establishment of load distribution feeding the grid with 11kV power

Construction of the 88/11kV Lutz Substation:

  • Install 4 x 88kV line bays

  • Install 2 x 45 MVA 88/11kV transformer bays

  • Install necessary substation equipment

  • Construct a control building

  • Civil works (fence, stone, signs, lighting etc.)

  • Install the necessary control and protection technology
